Frances Dickens Hursey

Frances Dickens Hursey 86, of Roanoke Rapids, died Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Frances, a native of Roanoke Rapids, was the daughter of the late Cleveland Shepard Dickens, Sr. and Virginia Catherine Blythe Dickens. She was the widow of the late Archiebald Hursey. She was also preceded in death by two brothers Cleveland Shepard Dickens,Jr. and Frederick Wayne Dickens.

She was a 1943 graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School. Frances was retired with over 29 years of service from Big Star grocery stores. She was an active member of All Saint’s Episcopal Church in Roanoke Rapids, a member of the Roanoke Rapids senior citizens club of which she served as president. She was a volunteer at Health Link and crocheted lap throws for local nursing home patients.

Frances is survived by her sister, Doris Dickens Shaw, of Goldsboro; her brother, James Russell Dickens and his wife, Alice, of Rocky Mount; five nieces, Carol Dickens of Rocky Mount; Missy Dickens Pair of Raleigh; Nancy Catherine Ybarra of Efland; Ann Caroline Shaw of Jacksonville and Grace Meade Horne; two nephews, Rusty Dickens of Rocky Mount and Willis Breedlove Shaw of Goldsboro; and a special cousin, Brenda Moore, of Roanoke Rapids.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 14, at 1 P.M. at All Saint’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Dr. Marjorie H. Holm, Rev. Duncan Jones, Rev. Beverly Huck and Rev. Frederick C. Eichner officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

There will be a luncheon with the family receiving friends from 11:30 a.m. in the Parish house until service time.
